TradeTrack CLI
Build, Test, and Publish a Python Application
Overview
TradeTrack CLI is a hands-on Python course that takes you through the development of a real-world command-line application — from data modeling and CLI design to testing, automation, packaging, and publishing.
Throughout the course, you’ll build TradeTrack, a command-line inventory tracking application for small traders, while learning how the different pieces of a production-ready Python project fit together.
Who It’s For
This course is for Python learners who are comfortable with the basics and ready to move beyond individual scripts to build structured, maintainable, tested, and distributable Python applications.
What You’ll Learn
- 🧱 Design relational data models with SQLAlchemy
- ⚙️ Build command-line interfaces with Typer
- 🧪 Write automated tests and test business logic with Pytest
- 📊 Measure test coverage and identify untested code
- 🔧 Automate common development tasks with Makefiles
- 📦 Structure and package a Python application
- 🚀 Publish a package to TestPyPI or PyPI
- 📝 Organize your project with documentation and version control
Capstone Outcome
By the end of the course, you’ll have built a fully functional Python CLI application and publishable Python package.
Your finished project will include a relational data layer, command-line interface, automated tests, coverage reporting, development automation, documentation, version control, and the tooling required to distribute your application.
More importantly, you’ll have completed the full process of taking a Python project from an idea to a structured application that others can install and use.
